It Just Might Be Smooth Sailing For Jessica Watson From Here On In
After managing to safely sail around Cape Horn in what was by far the biggest test of her sailing skills yet in her solo round-the-world journey, Jessica Watson is on the Atlantic Ocean, headed for the Cape of Good Hope. From this point on in her adventure, it should be easy sailing for her, and now she can buckle down and crack open some schoolbooks–so she’s thinking anyway.

God knows she could use the informal education, informal only because she gets to do her studies from the comfort of her boat–Bella’s Pink Lady. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think the teenager is all that bright really, that she might be a bit of slow learner when it comes to anything but sailing.
I don’t know, but just listening to her speak makes me think that something isn’t working right for her upstairs. She sounds a little slow if you ask me, but hey that won’t hold her back from becoming the youngest person to sail around the world solo, a title she won’t lose to that “wrecked in the head” teenager from California.
Abby Sunderland, 16 and not much younger than Jessica, set sail from Marina del Ray a week ago yesterday (Saturday her in Oz) on her 40-footer. She has been preparing for what critics are calling a treacherous voyage. Her feat, should she come out it alive, isn’t going to be a solo journey around the world.
Abby’s journey will take her down the Pacific and around Cape Horn, across the Southern Ocean–just about the Antarctica and then she will connect back up with the Pacific Ocean and return home, if of course she doesn’t freeze to death first. You can follow her journey at http://abbysunderland.com/.
