Youngest Round Running Low On Food, Feeling Mopey And Frustrated
She is halfway through her solo sail around the world aboard Bella’s Pink Lady, but shit happens when you are a teenager all alone in the middle of Bumf*** Nowhere.
However, as most people do sometimes, Jessica Watson has been finding comfort in food when she starts feeling a little bit mopey.
Unfortunately, for Jessica though, some of her favorite eats are all but all gone–starting with her Pringles. It’s a good thing she has a computer onboard onboard to tell us all about it, huh?
Apparently, she is down to her last pack of them and she is running out of tinned fruit.
Not good for somebody who finds comfort in food. I hope for her sake, especially in the mopey and frustrated frame of mind she admitted she is in at times, she doesn’t let running out of her favorite foods distract her from the task at hand, staying safe and on course for the last half of her teenage adventure.
So anyway, all isn’t bad for the wannabe record setting Sunshine Coaster, and yesterday she happened across something I myself once witnessed when I was a 17-year-old aboard the St. Lawrence Navigator, dolphins playing at the ship’s bow.
That’s an awesome sight, but unlike Jessica, a few dolphins only entertained me whereas probably fourty or fifty of the sea mammals entertained Jessica it sounds like. Perhaps even more.
Jessica says they were everywhere–long lines of dolphins leaping out of waves and talking to each other in squeaks and squeals.
I can only imagine how big of a smile she must have been wearing after seeing something like that. That’s too cool, and there is little doubt in my mind that witnessing such a spectacle put her in a very good frame of mind, even it turns out it was only for a little while.
It’s not all amusement for Jessica out there on the Atlantic by herself, and I’m glad to hear that she was able to put a smile back on her face before having to battle winds of 40 knots and 4m swells that she says packed quite a punch.
Halfway through her 22-thousand nautical mile journey, Jessica is just 1500 nautical miles off the Cape of Good Hope, and if all goes according to plan–she hopes to be back in Sydney, Australia by May and in time to celebrate her 17th birthday.
